Preparing for a Good Lent Starts Now
AnnouncementsLet us prepare our souls to celebrate the most important event in world history: the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Lent is an opportunity to renew our Christian faith using prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
Just a few examples of many opportunities
-Prayer – attend Mass during the week, add a devotion (Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Holy Face Chaplet, Chaplet of Seven Sorrows of Mary), read daily scripture/Lenten reflections. Go to confession.
-Fasting - We are required to abstain from meat every Friday in Lent and on Ash Wednesday and to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday
-Other types of fasting -replace listening to music with prayers or Catholic podcast.
-Fast from social media and spend that time in prayer or helping others.
-Think about where you may be going in the wrong direction in your life and how a Lenten fast can help turn that around.
-The goals of fasting are to turn our minds to God throughout the day and to grow in virtue and love.
Almsgiving – helping others financially and in our actions. (volunteer, spend time with those in need)
What penitential practice can I embrace during Lent that I desire to retain even when Lent is over?
What penitential practice can I embrace during Lent that I will joyfully set aside at the celebration of Easter?
